PALANGKA RAYA, BORNEO24.COM – Unit Criminal Investigation Police of Palangka Raya succeeded in arresting the perpetrator of fraud under the guise of religion that had viral on social media. EKS (34) was arrested by officers and he was trying to escape in Kapuas Regency, last Saturday (11/01/2020).
Head of Unit Criminal Investigation Police of Palangka, Commissioner Todoan Gultom, said the mode of the perpetrator was pretending to convert and exploit the mercy of people.
In its action in Palangka Raya, the perpetrator pretended to be a convert at Masjid Mendawai Street, Palangka Raya. One local cleric also invited the perpetrator to stay at home.
“When the victim went to Banjarmasin, the perpetrator then ran off with a Honda Beat motorbike and Rp 1 million in cash. The motorbike was then sold for Rp 4 million,” he said, Tuesday (01/14/2020).
Besides in Palangka Raya, the perpetrator also acted elsewhere. Through the same mode, the perpetrator also deceived the priest by pretending to convert to Christianity.
“The evidence that we have secured from arrest is Rp 1 million and a motorcycle. We are using Article 378 of the Criminal Code regarding fraud,” said Gultom.
While EKS, when interviewed by Borneo24.com, claimed to get the idea of fraud while behind bars.
“Get the idea from a friend in prison. I once entered because of a drug case,” he admitted.
